BE A FRIEND TO A PRISONER
Friendship is in terribly short supply in our prisons. We are a small group of citizens who are trying to help spread the word that prisoners are our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, daughters, sons: that everyone has a story and we need to turn away from our present punishment-only tactics. We are trying to help these men and women survive their prison ordeal with their psyches intact . We offer web posting free to prisoners, as many prisoners have lost contact with families and friends and have no money. Yet many of these prisoners are desperate for outside contact . FFUP also offers phone and email support to those wishing to take the penpal plunge and also has a Post office box for those who would like to use that for a return address when writing prisoners.
We hope this penpal project will help this country find its compassion again so we can begin to solve the problems that funnel so many people into our ever burgeoning gulags. But more than that, we FFUPers who write prisoners, and many of us have done so for almost ten years now, have watched our prison work become centerpieces in our lives. Even though the letter you write may seem a small thing, it makes all the difference to prisoner. It is a great gift to be able to help someone so directly. . ..

Note: If you are under 18 years of age, we recommend you do not write to prisoners.
